Wien Energie

Wien Energie is Austria’s largest regional energy provider. The company reliably supplies energy to around two million people and 230,000 commercial and industrial facilities. Its electricity and heat production comes from combined heat and power (CHP), waste incineration, and renewable energy sources such as solar, wind, hydropower, and biomass. Wien Energie is massively expanding the share of renewable energy sources and is making an active contribution to the path to climate neutrality by 2040.

Green hydrogen plays an important role in the mobility and energy transition, and Wien Energie has already achieved key milestones: Since 2024, Wien Energie has been producing up to 1,300 kilograms of green hydrogen daily directly in the city with Vienna’s first electrolysis plant. Hydrogen production in Simmering uses exclusively electricity from renewable sources such as solar, wind, and hydropower. Wien Energie also offers companies the opportunity to supply themselves directly with green hydrogen – via mobile cylinder bundles, by trailer at the electrolysis plant, or at one of its two own hydrogen filling stations. Companies can use these to refuel with 100% green hydrogen at 350 bar and 700 bar.
